The firm was formed as a partnership on November 14, 1919 under the name Gary Audit Company. The original three partners were Walter Goedecke, Charlie Silep and Wesley Ginder. The firm was located in downtown Gary for its first 56 years. Many of those years were at 504 Broadway (Gary State Bank Building). In June 1975, the firm moved its office to 235 East 86th Avenue in Merrillville. At the time, we were the first business on 86th Avenue and now it’s a busy commercial street that includes NiSource’s headquarters and the Chase Bank Centre.
In the late 1960’s, the State of Indiana had the firm remove the word “Company” from its name since it was organized as a partnership. That was when the firm changed its name to include its partners’ names: Swartz, Retson, Lindholm & Kettas. The firm later incorporated and the name has since been shortened to Swartz, Retson & Co., P.C.
